Volcanos

A volcano is a place where molten rock and gas (magma) emerge to the earth surface. The mountain or hill formed by the eruptive debris is called a volcano. There are over 500 volcanoes that have erupted in the past 500 years. Eruptions of magma occur along the mid-oceanic ridges and along the tectonic plates. Steep mountain of lava and ash form island. Yet not all mountains are volcanic. The fomation of molten rock and rise of magma to the earths surface in caused by a heat exchange in the interior of the earth. Volcanic eruptions are a release of energy in a confined space. This energy is the heat being pushed to the surface throught the outer shell. The heat is in the form molten lava (melted rock). The outer crust is push out with explosive force. Here are four examples of lava; Volcanic Bombs, Jumbled Pieces, Lava Flow and Wide Pumice.

Volcanic Bombs occur when blobs of lava are thrown out of a volcano, some solidify in the air, landing on the ground as hard "bombs". They can be many shapes and sizes. Most shaped like footballs.

Jumbled Pieces-The force of an explosion may cause rocks to fragment. As a result ,a mixture of angular pieces often fills the central vent or is laid down close to the vent. The fragments form rocks known as agglomerates.

Flow Lava - The lava is fast-flowing and spreads out quickly to cover a vast areas. This specimen has flowed over a button and trapped it inside.

Wide Pumice-Is the lava that flows on The very top it traps air inside which cause the holes. It changes in size and color from white, brown and dark gray.
