Fossils are mainly sedimentary rocks. They're the remains of animals and plant life that has been preserved in layers of sediment.

Both Graptolites and Coprolite (Dung) are important artifacts that help us to understand the way thing were. They can also give us "hints" about how the different species lived and what the ate. These "specimens" or "artifacts" and are important tools for exploring the history of life on earth. Many of the sciences and social sciences use fossil specimens to piece together there understanding of a period of time.
