Cape Cod Rocks

Starting in January

http://www.capecodrocks.org

The purpose of this organization is to provide and secure the on going development of an educational Internet web site that inspires interest in the Earth Sciences, Geology and Archeology.  Cape Cod Rocks is a valued Internet resource as well as a web site for students interested these fields. We take fossils, stone artifacts, rock, mineral, gem samples and photographed them, using the extraordinary natural light of the beaches of Cape Cod as a back drop. The web site identifies and labels each specimen so that students can compare, study and learn to identify different minerals that they find in the field or are studying at school.

Our goal is to design and develop an easy to use web site that will motivate students to explore more about rocks, minerals, and gems. Conscious of our nations' schools aging computers, we paid special attention to down load times, as well as supplying just information to get the students underway on   their school reports. Students are welcome to use the photos for the school reports and comparative sample papers. As future technologies are made available to our schools we will be adding video and audio technology to the web site.

Cape Cod Rocks has access to over 2,500 mineral hand samples that have been collected of from 1883 to the present day, so that the cataloging; photographing; documentation; labeling; and web page design are our primary functions.

Our secondary functions are to the students and web site visitors to whom we: answer questions;  guide to additional sites; and provide direction to additional information such as books, clubs, periodicals as well as suggest activities the will reinforce their knowledge and understanding.

Lastly, organizing as a not-for profit business will make it possible to administrate and procure funding so that we may continue to design and develop our educational resource, and bring cutting edge educational technologies to the web.

In 1998 one hundred and fourteen students, visited monthly. By the fall of 1999, eighteen thousand students reviewed the web site per-month. Now after winning awards and received global recognition  Cape Cod Rocks breaking records for and educational web site. As of December 1, 2000, Cape Cod Rocks   has over 58,000 visitors each month.
