(Beryl) Aquamarine

Aquamarine Beryl

Be3Al2Si6O18 (Beryllium aluminum silicate)

Hexagonal: System

Usually six sided prisms that are striated lengthwise. I enjoy the aquamarine (blue to a water-like clarity) colored crystals the most. Beryl is very hard (7.5-8). The clear beryl or transparent crystals are highly prized and are cut into fine gems that can last centuries. Here are a few more sample that will give you an idea on the color varieties that are found right here in New England.
